The original charter was granted on October 26, 1951, and the Boys Club of Augusta was born!

In 1959, the Graniteville Company donated 7 acres of land for a permanent Boys Club site. Contributions from the Arthur H. and Ernest B. Merry Foundation, the Silver Family, Roscoe Roberts, Merial Black Corey and the Anne Langdon Estate, funded the opening of a permanent Boys Clubs of Augusta at 1903 Division Street in the Harrisburg community, a site which remains our flagship Club to this day.

In 1969, the first black youth were admitted to the Clubs, marking the start of the commitment we've held to ever since to serve the entire community, especially those who need us most, regardless of race, creed, or color.

Boys Clubs of America officially became the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in 1990, and local organizations quickly followed suite to begin accepting female members. In 1994, we officially changed our name to Boys & Girls Clubs of Augusta.

Our Dogwood Terrace Club officially opened May 2, 1994, and continues to profoundly impact the community it serves 32 years later.

The founding of the Thomson (McDuffie County) Club in 1999 represented the greatest-yet expansion of our area of service, placing a much-needed Club in an area that would not be able to support one on it's own.

In 2007, following the lead of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, we increased our focus on measurable academic success and targeted program impacts. As a result, we have seen a consistent and marked improvement in both grades and graduation rates among our Members, with a 98% graduation rate amongst our seniors today.

The expansion into Washington County marked the fourth county to be served by our organization.

Construction completed on the J. Hebbard Club in 2019, marking the first permanent Club site in South Augusta.

In order to better reflect the growing scope of our mission and service area, the decision was made in 2021 to rename the organization to "Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta".

In 2025, we established the first-ever Boys & Girls Club of Hancock County in Sparta, Georgia, expanding our service area to a full five counties.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta now operates 10 Club sites across five counties, with 205 employees working hard every day to meet the needs of the over 7,000 children we now serve annually. The work is never done and, while we have grown, the need has grown with us. Will you consider pitching in today to help us make even more of an impact in 2026 and beyond?
